Description
Stealing water: this is the origin of the word “clepsydra”, which means ‘hourglass’. The first hourglasses worked by passing water from one container to another, and the time that this took became a unit of measurement. Only later was the water replaced by sand, but not just any sand: in order to be able to flow through a small hole it must have the right granularity, and should not be clayey. The bases of this attractive pewter hourglass are adorned with a replica of an ancient Greek coin. Our pewter hourglass, also available in a larger version as in art. 682, is cast, soldered and finished exclusively by hand in our workshop.
