Pewter Barometers

In Europe during the second half of the 17th Century, the water barometer was widely used as a tool for forecasting the weather. Its widespread use was thanks to the ability of the glass entirely handmadesame as the Torricelli mercury barometer that is still used today. The only difference between the two instruments is the fact that the atmospheric pressure detection in the water barometer is influenced by the differences in atmospheric temperatures. However it is surprising to notice that our pewter barometer, although conceptually simple, is able to register variations in atmospheric pressure under standard conditions.
