Pewter Hourglasses
Stealing water: this is the origin of the word “clepsydra”, which means ‘hourglass’. The first hourglasses worked by passing water from one container to another, and the time that this took became a unit of measurement. Only later was the water replaced by sand, but not just any sand: in order to be able to flow through a small hole it must have the right granularity, and should not be clayey. Watching the sand flowing through an ampoule has a hypnotic charm, as if it were defying the passage of time itself. Our pewter hourglasses, with their classic shapes, seem to defy the time that they measure, by remaining forever fascinating and current. Our pewter gift items are entirely handmade by our pewter artisans, and stamped with the GT brand name, which is our guarantee of both high quality alloy and an excellent finish.
